Captain Escape’s Illusions was designed to present the Word of God in a simple fun manner for kids of all ages to hear.  Children and young people need to know God loves them and that He cares about them deeply.  Kids often struggle with life’s challenges alone.  There is no one to guide them or help them with life’s problems.  They struggle with self-esteem, finding friends, doing homework, feeling loved and cared for.   They are missing out on God’s love because they don’t know it is there for the asking.  They don’t think anyone cares.  These same kids have trouble listening to your “typical pulpit message.”  Captain Escape makes learning about God a lesson in fun and laughter that drives home the simple message “we all need God and He wants a relationship with each of us.”

Rich Landry

Husband, Dad, Brother, Deacon, SS Teacher and Children’s Worship Speaker

First Baptist Church, Round Rock, Texas

Rich has been entertaining people his entire life.  As a young man he starred in his Junior High School play “Romeo and Julie” (comedy) where he won Best Actor.  He continued his school acting where he won the Drama awards in both Junior High and High School.  He was given the lead role in his High School play without having to read for the part.  He continued his humor/acting into college part time.  He came back to the stage when he did a one man show as a “Comic Elvis Impersonator.”   This launched a new show-line for Rich.  He has performed his Elvis show many times and in many locations (San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Houston and Las Vegas).  His Elvis show has been broadcast live internationally (Corporate TV) and he preformed his show in Las Vegas for two different trade shows.  He has even performed at Wedding Anniversaries and Cub Scout Banquets.

He developed a new show called “Captain Escape” where he combines his humor, magic and the Gospel of Christ to entertain and spread God’s word to children.

Rich lives in Round Rock, Texas with his wife Amy and their 3 wonderful children where he serves as a Deacon, 6th grade Sunday School Teacher and Children’s Worship Speaker.  He also has a “blog” where Rich shares some of his life insights and experiences to help others.

“Captain Escape was amazing; he connected with our audience in a big way.   The kids and adults around me laughed at his jokes and were amazed at his escape from the locked mail bag!  As the Upward Director it was great to work with Rich because he understood the importance of sharing the gospel to our audience in a fun and clear way.  I was so thankful to have worked with him and thankful for how he helped us wrap up our Upward season with such an excellent gospel presentation!”

Brandy Caffey, Director of Recreation & Single’s Ministries at First Baptist Church, Round Rock, TX

“Rich did a great job at our Soccer Celebration night. He entertained us and taught the gospel in a way that everyone had a great time. Rich has a show that any church organization would want to use. Keep spreading the word Rich!”

Tom Shade, Upward Director for First Melissa Church, Melissa TX.

“Rich was the entertainer for our Upward Football Rally. His energy and enthusiasm kept the attention of both players and their families. I got to spend time with Rich and his two sons during the afternoon set up time and enjoyed getting to know them. He is genuine in his faith and it shows in his presentation. Thanks for the great job. I would recommend Rich for any children's program your church is having.”

David Smith, Upward Football Commissioner, CBC, Clovis, NM

“Rich was absolutely awesome! He held the children's attention as well as the adults for his entire show. He was then able to convey his gospel message of how Satan attempts to confine us but Jesus Christ sets us free perfectly with his illusions and his big finish. The show was very entertaining and the message was clear and succinct. We of the Bulverde UMC Upward Committee will gladly recommend Richard and hope to have him back again.”

Tod A. Clarke, BUMC Upward Committee, San Antonio, TX.

“Thanks to you Rich.  Everyone loved you and the boys.  Your message was great and of course, your "magic" was too.”

Jeanette Hurley, Children’s Director Marquez Baptist, Marquez, TX.

“Richard did a fantastic job as our speaker/entertainer. He held the kids attention during the entire program. He did a great job with the gospel presentation. His gift of keeping the attention of the audience, both young and old, was fantastic. I would recommend Richard to any Church that was looking for an entertainer for any program especially UPWARD. Great job Richard and I am looking forward to using you again in the future.“

Ray Rogers, Upward Commissioner for First Baptist Church Orange, TX.

“Thank you so much for coming! I enjoyed meeting you and your wife.  Our people really enjoyed the show!”

Brittany Parsons, Children’s Ministry Director Central Baptist, College Station, TX.

Captain Escape performed at our Upward Awards Ceremony this year and I watched the kids faces as he performed his escape act.  Their eyes got big and huge smiles told me they were anxious to see if he would actually escape.  Even the adults were impressed when the music hit a climax and the mailbags dropped from his shoulders.

Captain Escape is also an amazing Christian leader!  Hanging out with kids is his favorite past-time being a big kid himself.  He is a sensational 6th grade Sunday School teacher, and has a God-given talent in relating the gospel to kids.  The kids love it when he comes to preach at our children's worship.  He also takes a large group of kids to Preteen Camp each summer.  There you see his amazing positive outlook on life and the kids catch his enthusiasm for Christ.  Your kids will love getting to know Captain Escape.”

Melva Shubert, Minister to Children at First Baptist Church, Round Rock, TX

“I thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment and the message Captain Escape shared during our 2007 Upward Awards Ceremony.  I loved his humor and how well he involved his on stage volunteers, as well as the audience.  Captain Escape exceeded my expectations, and his performance prompted others to share positive comments with me regarding our entertainment.  I highly recommend Captain Escape, and I would not hesitate to invite him again in the future.”

Steve Abalos, Upward Director First Baptist Church, Round Rock, Texas

“You really did do an awesome job Sunday! I am impressed! I knew it would be good because of your personality and the rapport you have with kids, but you really took it up a notch.”

Stan Moore, Upward Coach First Baptist Church, Round Rock, Texas

“I enjoyed the Upwards program that you did.  I thought it was great!”

Jodi Hawkins, Upward Volunteer

“I just wanted to thank you for putting on such a great show for the Upwards awards ceremony.  Captain Escape rocks!”

Steve Hazzard, Upward Parent

“You were outstanding and the kids really enjoyed it.  The 7 foot mail bag is still bothering me, I had a difficult time sleeping last night I woke up several times wrestling with the sheet.”

Tom Hubbard, Upward Director First Baptist Church, Round Rock, Texas

“It was quite entertaining.  The kids and adults liked the show.  I'm not sure if they liked the "illusions" or the ad lib humor the most, but I know they definitely paid attention, were amazed, and enjoyed themselves.

I myself was watching each illusion quite intently and holding back the urge to jump up and say "I know how he does it! I know how he does it!" or worse yet, accusing him of making one of my family members disappear in an act he did in another city and how we've never seen them since.”
